Much of Australia's climate change debate is focused on ways to reduce emissions from electricity generation: clean coal, solar, wind, geothermal.

The first approach usually advocated in addressing the greenhouse gas / climate change issue is "demand side management" (i.e. reducing current energy usage). This is typically described as the "cheapest Megawatt Hour is the one we don't use" or "the cleanest power station is the one we don't build". (Reference: UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 'Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis')

By switching to lower consumption forms of lighting, such as LEDs, significant reductions in energy usage can be achieved.
